The Course

Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1970, the course has been reworked by Roger Rulewich, one of the original design team, in a major $14.5 million makeover for the 2009/2010 Grand Slam of Golf. The project has maintained the playability and feel of the world’s best course designs, but has succeeded in bringing it into the 21st century. Around 100,000 cubic yards of earth has been moved and reshaped in this significant renovation. New lakes were created to support the state-of-the-art Watermation irrigation system, which is fed by our own reverse osmosis (RO) plant. Hundreds of casuarinas trees were removed and the course lined with indigenous trees, such as palms and Bermudan cedars, which has created a more natural, open environment. The fairways have been re-laid with Bermuda 419 and Tiff Eagle greens have been incorporated to produce consistent surfaces. The new bunkers are shaped to be consistent with the contours of the land.

The renovations have resulted in a challenging course with natural elements to confuse the strongest mindset, and the green shapes will expose any weaknesses in your putting. However, we have incorporated many new teeing areas to give all players the opportunity to enjoy Port Royal and the breathtaking views will help to ease away any tension and frustrations during your game. The course is designed to offer a great test for the advanced golfer and a satisfying and enjoyable experience for high handicap players.
